PANTHERS TARGET SCORPIONS SUCCESS

Friday September 08, 2017
PETERBOROUGH have more than one reason to want to beat Scunthorpe in their latest SGB Championship outing tonight.

The 'T Balfe Construction' Panthers entertain the Scorpions at the East of England Arena, 7.30pm.

Team boss Carl Johnson is desperate for his side to follow up a welcome weekend success against Glasgow with another victory.

And he's also keen to make a statement ahead of a KO Cup quarter-final second leg at Scunthorpe in a fortnight. Panthers will take an 18-point aggregate advantage into that September 22 showdown at the Eddie Wright Raceway.

Johnson said: "It was very important to pick up the win against Glasgow last Sunday.

"We certainly needed it after a tough run of meetings - and it is now crucial we follow it up.

"We're still looking to finish as high as we possibly can in the table and we also need to send a message to Scunthorpe ahead of the KO Cup tie.

"We've got a taste for silverware after winning the Fours in such great style and everyone is determined to try to add another trophy to our collection."

Peterborough again turn to Scott Nichols to guest at number one - just as he did impressively against Glasgow.

They also hope to welcome Bradley Wilson-Dean back into the side after a lay-off with a wrist problem.

The Kiwi will take part in a practice session, which has now been pushed back to late afternoon, at Alwalton to test his fitness ahead of the meeting. If he doesn't get the green light, Panthers will again operate rider replacement.

Visitors Scunthorpe are without injury victim Josh Auty, whose absence is covered by the rider replacement facility.

And they also draft in guest Ash Morris at reserve due to Tero Aarnio being involved in the Finnish Championship.

Johnson added: "It won't be easy by any means tonight as Scunthorpe have plenty of riders who know our place well.

"Ash looked good when he rode here for Newcastle last week, Ryan Douglas scored well guesting for us in the same meeting and we all known what Michael Palm Toft can do around the East of England Arena.

"I'm expecting a tough night. Hopefully the fans will get behind in numbers and make plenty of noise."
